Caregiving Coalition

Are you helping care for an older adult or a person with disabilities?

Do you care for an older adult or person with disability by doing the following or similar tasks?
  • Taking the individual to their doctors appointments
  • Grocery shopping for the individual
  • Helping with household tasks
  • Assisting with medications, dressing, toileting, etc
Then you are a caregiver!

Caregiving Coalition

Through the grant funding received by the national Changing the Care Conversation (CTCC) program, the SRC will initiate a caregiving coalition that will focus on addressing the needs of caregivers. The Caregiving Coalition will serve as a supportive network and resource for caregivers throughout Southeast Michigan. Caregiving Coalition Goals

  • Create a regional family caregiver coalition focused on the voice of the family caregiver
  • Organize a broad audience of family caregiving champions that represents the diversity of southeast Michigan
  • Increase access to social supports and community based resources
  • Highlight the impact of cultural diversity on the sphere of caregiving
The Caregiving Coalition will provide caregivers with the opportunity to utilize the numerous resources and benefits offered both indirectly and directly through the CTCC program, SRC, and SRC partners.

The SRC's Caregiving Coalition will center the voice of the caregiver and the impact that diversity has on the caregiving space.

RAISE Act

The National Alliance for Caregiving – a coalition of 67 national organizations – applauds the release of the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services but urges strong accountability and implementation efforts to turn the strategy into action.
The National Strategy includes potential government actions that address issues that family caregivers say are most important, including:

1)    Access to Respite Services
2)    Support with Day-to-Day and Complex Medical Tasks
3)    Inclusion of Caregivers in Care Teams
4)    Financial Education on Caregiving Costs
5)    Better Identification of Family Caregivers
6)    Research on the Needs of Family Caregivers
The Strategy will be updated biennially, informed in part by public feedback, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of family caregivers and those they care for as they evolve.

Caregiver Burnout, Stress, and Boundaries

Being a caregiver is a great responsibility, and with it also comes great challenges. Therefore, it is important for caregivers to take a step back and reflect on their own needs. Additional video resources created by Psych Hub for caregivers can be found below to help address stress and burnout, and how to set boundaries.
